You should write.
I’m serious. You should consider writing. The last few weeks, I haven’t made time to write.
I almost wrote that I haven’t “had” time to write.
But the truth is, I haven’t made the time for myself. And a funny thing happened because of it. First, I missed it, which wasn’t a surprise. But then something else happened that was unexpected. I started “writing”, but only in my head.
I had a hard time focusing on things around me, because my brain was full of words and stories. Can you imagine trying to go to sleep when your brain is full of stuff? Well, yes, I’m sure you can, which is why I said you should write.
I’ve been journaling most of my life, not knowing that the biggest take-away from it was clearing my brain. Apparently, I have a lot to say. And, if I don’t download some of those words, it can get pretty overwhelming.
Maybe you can relate to that?
I know some of you are going to say, “I can’t write”. But the truth is, you can. The reason I know this is because I used to say that all the time too.
I still get a little pit in my stomach thinking someone way smarter than me and who is a “real writer” is going to laugh at my style. But I also decided that’s okay. I saw a quote from Stephen King today, which sums it up for me:
“It wasn’t written for money. It was written so I could see better”.
Not only does writing help clear my head, but it helps me see better too. Pouring out my story these last months has been the best thing I have done for myself. (Thank you for that)
I would like to invite you to do the same. I have been fortunate enough to have a few people writing to me and telling me their stories. It conveys to me that we have a need to share our lives with others.
So let go of what anyone else may think, and write. Share it or not, it’s up to you. But you may be surprised just how helpful it is, and who knows, there may be a writer in there, waiting to get out.
