Aging on my terms - Daily musings in 500 words or so

Well-being is more than just diet and exercise

Our well-being encompasses so much more than just diet and exercise.

I’ve shared my wellness journey with you here each week, and you’ve seen me try several different diets. I have talked about exercise and the importance of movement as well.

But one area I haven’t put enough attention on, is my mental well-being.

I love the simplicity of these ‘feverfew’ flowers

I’ve been so busy with my blog and new group, and with traipsing about that I’ve neglected my home and even a few of my personal pampering rituals.

I was feeling agitated and even a bit depressed and realized I had let my surroundings, my sanctuary, become cluttered and messy. When my space is messy, my brain gets confused and I lose my ability to be my usual happy self.

So I spent the day fixing that.

My house is now clean and fresh, laundry is done, and I even went through the piles of papers on John’s desk. I have fresh flowers on my table, and one of my favorite candles burning.

Here’s your desk, John! I found it.

When life out of hand, it's time to spend some time decluttering and making your surroundings beautiful.

Our big kitchen is so nice! It even has a fireplace.

Wine time

This makes me happy and content

Next, it’s time to go get a pedicure and get a little pampering in. My poor toes are definitely not sandal ready, and I’m way over due for a proper pedicure.

It will feel even better going to the Farmer’s Market later, knowing I’m coming home to a clean, clutter-free home that I love and draw energy from.

Our mental state and emotional health is equally as important as our physical health. Let’s not forget to do the things that make us comfortable and content, as well as getting fit and having fun.

  1. I have found that we sometimes have to put our social media into check. I set a timer for blogging… I also try to only do two posts a week. I don’t know how you do it everyday!

Self care is so important! I love to art journal as well and that gets put to the side sometimes.

Oh I just got a well deserved pedi yesterday and next month I’m getting a facial!

I also have stopped eating to get skinny… I now eat to be healthy. It’s amazing how my mind responds better to that.

Loved your kitchen and pictures! Awesome!

      Nancy, thank you!

I love your idea of setting a timer. I was doing so well, making sure to get some exercise in. But I ran out of day for the other stuff. It’s a balancing act for sure.

I so agree with you about eating to be healthy. Same here.

Thank you, I do love my kitchen (and old stove!). Xx

  2. Your place looks so charming…and tidy! You had a very productive day! I love that you had fresh flowers, a candle and going for a pedicure! yay!

Thank you Cindy. It was soooo nice waking up to a pretty house this morning!

  3. You home is lovely. Can you come clear out the papers in my office 😉 I want a window seat one day, which I see there in your photo.

Oh the never ending paper war!

Thank you Christy, love our little place (when it’s clean!)

I agree that our mental state is as important as our physical state. My brain does the same thing when everything around me is cluttered and messy.

Some people function just fine with clutter around….some of us just don’t at all. I’m glad I fixed my mess 😉
