Weekend – Gratitude

I love all of the Thanksgiving posts that are flooding social media right now. I’ll admit I can be one of those people who get caught up in mainstream news, which brings me down pretty fast.

So it’s nice to see a few posts about food, and even more about gratitude. Thinking about this past year, I realize I have so much to be thankful for. And there is one person that has made this year possible for me.

My John.

I am filled with gratitude for this man.
My John

In December of 2016 I was at the end of my rope with my job. I had given so much and was completely drained and dismayed. I had been working for a family that didn’t care one bit about my personal life, or me but kept demanding more and more.

Just one month after starting with them, I worked 18 hours on Thanksgiving Day. And when I added up the hours for that week, I wasn’t surprised to see that number close to 80. There was no holiday pay or overtime either. And no gratitude.

We had no Thanksgiving this year

Putting together a Thanksgiving event for 25 people was no easy task, but I was proud of my accomplishment in the end. Planning a private party for the following day proved to be more exhausting than I could imagine. But I did that too.

After a year of more of the same, I was completely run down and unhappy. On December 3, 2016 John and I were sitting at a pub talking about life and how unhappy I was, when John said, “Just quit Loretta. Or try to get fired.”

I didn’t quit, and I can say I have never been fired from any job, but a much better solution was presented to me the very following Monday. I got laid off.

It was like a 500-pound weight was immediately lifted from my shoulders. I couldn’t believe my luck. I received a severance package and walked out, never looking back. But I was exhausted and battered and John knew I needed time to heal.

He gave me a camera for Christmas and said, “Go take pictures, honey.” I was able to help my son, and his family, move to the East Coast that December. In January I went back to school full-time, including taking a photography class.

In April he drove me all over California so I could see and photograph the wildflower super-bloom.

John sent me to visit my granddaughters in March, even though he couldn’t take the time off work. It was also during the peak of the Cherry Blossom season.

Because of his job, we were able to fly to DC for the 4th of July and to see the girls.

And it was right after getting back from that trip, that I said I wanted to start the blog. John was 100% behind me and even encouraged me to do something I wanted to do, but was afraid. It was because of his support, I was able to post Exposing the Truth.

He has continued to be my biggest fan and has given me this entire year to heal and just be me. I’ve had an opportunity most people only dream of. And I owe it to him.

I am so grateful to this man

My John is an amazing man and I am so very grateful to have found him. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, John for giving me this last year.
