They say it’s your birthday

My birthday is a big deal to me.

I know birthdays are not a big deal for everyone, but for me, they’re important. Maybe it’s because I was born on Mother’s Day 1959 and I’ve shared my birthday with that holiday many times since.

Or maybe it’s because I only remember having ONE birthday party when I was a kid. And I’m pretty sure that was the time my brother stood on the fence and pee’d in front of everyone, effectively ruining my birthday.

He thought it was funny.

I do know a lot of people who don’t care one way or another about their birthday. Like my husband, John. He never has requests or any specific things he wants to do. It’s almost just another day to him.

I’ve had a lot of friends who seem to have a  party or to-do every year on their birthday, so it’s clearly a big deal for them too. And for milestone birthdays, there is always a big party.

For my 50th birthday, it was Mother’s Day again. None of my friends could make it, because they were either celebrating with their moms or with their kids. I still had a great day, and my oldest son was able to come over and celebrate with me.

My hair had to look good….it was my 50th Birthday!

And don’t get me wrong; I’ve had some pretty fun birthdays and a few friends have made my birthday very special. But there have been a whole lot of birthdays that I haven’t even had a cake, let alone a party.

My daughter in law found out I haven’t had a birthday cake for a few years, and she’s pretty much made it her mission to make sure that never happens again.

Even camping, Amber made a birthday cake for me!

As a matter of fact, she’s making me a pretty special one this year. My kids are coming this weekend and we are celebrating my 59th birthday together, and Mother’s Day.

I’m looking forward to it, and know it will be just perfect.

This is my last year of being a 50-something year old, and I am going to do my best to enjoy every single day. Because 60 is coming and I am going to throw one hell of a big birthday bash to celebrate.

You want to come?

Happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy your birthday cake!

I’m like John, my birthday is not a big deal. I never had a birthday party growing up. My mom usually asked if we wanted our favorite meal for our birthday. I always chose macaroni and cheese. I have pictures of my first birthday which are adorable – me eating the cake without utensils. 🙂 Dray had some friends surprise me on my 50th birthday so that was a small party. I don’t like the attention. I don’t tell my friends or co-workers its my birthday. My sisters do usually remember with a card or a gift, but other than that no fanfare.

I do love to help other celebrate! So yes, I’ll come your 60th party!

Heck ya! I’d love to help you celebrate 60! My birthday is July 4th so there’s always some sort of celebration going on for me. I’ve always loved being born on the 4th. I shared my birthday with my paternal grandma so that was lots of fun growing up. She of course let me have the lime light. Now we typically go on a vacation over my birthday week, which I enjoy!

Yay for birthday cake and family to celebrate you on your special day. I was born on Easter and every once in a great while Easter lands on April 6th again. Enjoy this 59th year and then know that I have tested the waters of 60 and it’s pretty fair, too!

    Happy birthday, beautiful!

Alright I am in! I’ve never been much of a birthday celebration gal, but I need to be. I believe I never did because I didn’t feel important. kinda sad I know…

But we are important and we need to celebrate that all the time, and especially on our birthdays!

Your thoughts? I would love to hear from you...
