The Sunshine Blogger Award

I am delighted to be nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by my friend, Hilda Smith of Over the Hilda.

I first “met” Hilda on Facebook almost two years ago. And when John and I went to Ireland last spring, we were lucky enough to get to meet Hilda and her husband, Graham in person.

I have thoroughly enjoyed following Hilda’s blog and I am excited to share it with you.

This award is given from bloggers to bloggers who inspire creativity and positivity by bringing sunshine to the blogging community. It is a way of encouraging and supporting one another and also to get to know fellow bloggers.

I was asked the following questions and here are my quick answers as I feel most of you already know me!

Why did you start a blog?

As everyone who reads my blog knows, my goal was to let go of self-limiting beliefs and step into vulnerability. I want to reach 60 knowing (and liking) exactly who I am.

How did you come up with the name for your blog?

That’s easy! I wanted to Countdown to 60!

Counting down to 60!

How do you get the ideas for your posts?

Most of my posts are about my life, but I also love writing about the adventures John and I go on. You’ll find those under Tour & Traipse.

Tell me 5 fun facts about yourself.

  1. At 59 years old, I am learning to play the piano.
  2. I’m not a very good housekeeper!
  3. My favorite TV show is American Idol.
  4. For every project I make a book to help keep me organized.
  5. Each year I create a dream board for myself.
I’m learning just for me…

What’s your favorite social media site and why?

Hmmm…honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with social media. I adore that I have met so many wonderful people through social media, but I hate that it is such a time sponge. With that said, Instagram is probably my favorite site.

My nominees are:

Amy Kennedy of Your Favorite Chapter – Amy is one of those people who brings sunshine into every life she touches. I adore Amy and was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with her in my home town.

Patti Karshis of 55 is Fine – I met Patti while in San Antonio, Texas just a few weeks ago. We had connected online and felt an immediate friendship. Patti has such a positive, lovely attitude and lights up the room with her smile.

Kim Heelam Cook of For a Good Life After 50 – I have yet to meet Kim in person, but I am delighted I found her and her blog online. Her blog and social media posts are always ones that make me feel good and bring a smile to my face.

Your questions ladies:

  1. Why did you start your blog?
  2. How do you bring sunshine to your readers?
  3. What are 3 interesting things about you that your readers may not know?
  4. What is your favorite thing to do to relax?

I always love reading these posts Loretta because we learn so much more about you.
I have that same love/hate relationship. Although I’m being more positive about it. You would laugh if you heard me talk about social media 6 years ago. I considered it entirely worthless….LOL.

Loretta, if I had a dime for every time I’ve read your blog and cried out loud, “Noooo! Don’t stop it here!” Because I love your blog so much , it always leaves me wanting more! You are like that hero (or “shero”) that I wish I could hang out with so I could get to be strong and brave and tough and daring just like you!
Thank you so much for the very kind and gracious nomination! It means the world to me especially because it comes from you! So I grabbed the torch and took the next lap! By the way, I love American Idol, and I’m not a great housekeeper either!

Well deserved my friend! Yours was one of the very first blogs I read when I decided I was going to start blogging myself and I’ve enjoyed following along with you down memory lane. I’m with you on feelings for social media being a time sponge. You are so generous to sharing your IG tips with others .. excellent choice!

Your thoughts? I would love to hear from you...
