A gift

I was going to write about it being the first of October and that I’m starting over on exercise and healthy eating beginning today. But then I saw a friend of mine’s Facebook post about her favorite thing in the world, Christmas.

Christmas cookies to be more precise.

She has started baking cookies for the holiday season, as is her tradition, and it got me thinking about my Christmas Goodies book I made years ago.

When I was a young mom, I baked all the time. I loved cooking for my family and Christmas cookies were a tradition in our home as well. I put together a book of my favorite recipes, so I could easily find them each year.

I used construction paper to paste the recipes into, and wrote Christmas Goodies in glue and sprinkled it with red and green glitter. I still have that little book.

In it is my all time favorite sugar cookie recipe and I want to gift it with you too. I still make the Little Snow People every year, and they are always a favorite.

It’s from Better Homes and Gardens, November 1986.

I grew up with my grandmother’s Christmas cookies – the same ones every year. When she passed my mom took over – moon cookies, pecan fingers, almond bread with the sugar icing just right, petticoat tails. Once I moved out I began baking too – all of the usual plus more. Sometimes I would bake for a full weekend. I’ve cut back, but now my daughter has joined in. I love that tradition!

How cool is that! I love that you are now looking at 4 generations of making the same cookies. I just started making those Little Snow People with my granddaughters. They LOVE it 🙂
